Week 1 at CBS

After visiting Sweden, Estonia, and Finland, I arrived in Copenhagen on Saturday, August 19, 2023. I started a one-week course from August 21st to August 25th called the Danish Crash Course that teaches students about Danish language and culture. This week and class are optional to attend. The following week which is the week before classes begin is mandatory to attend since there are informational meetings. During the optional week, CBS also hosts social events to allow students to get to know one another. There was an International Buffet where students brought dishes from their homes and were able to try an assortment of new cuisines. There was also a Hygge night. Hygge is essential to Danish culture and is described as a cozy and comfortable atmosphere that is pivotal to the Danish way of life. At the Hygge night, we tried a traditional dish, the smørrebrød, an open-face rye bread sandwich with a bunch of toppings such as fish, shrimp, or cheese.

My parents also came to Denmark with me so I was able to go sightseeing with them. We visited the Tivoli Gardens, Frederiksborg Castle, Rosenborg Castle, Amalienborg Castle, Reffen Street Food Market, and Our Saviour's Church.

I would recommend joining the Danish Crash Course since it is a great opportunity to make friends before classes start. My friends and I attended the social events together and went out to try Danish hotdogs (a hotdog with ketchup, remoulade, pickles, onions, and fried onions) and Michelin Star ice cream.
